A number of technologies can reduce overall costs for the prevention or management of chronic illnesses. These include devices that constantly monitor health indicators, devices that auto-administer therapies, or devices that track real-time health data when a patient self-administers a therapy. Because they have increased access to high-speed Internet and smartphones, many patients have started to use mobile applications to manage various health needs.  These devices and mobile apps are now increasingly used and integrated with telemedicine and telehealth via the medical Internet of Things (mIoT). The technology is amazing and has the potential to completely change the healthcare industry, give better treatment and diagnosis to patients, ensure productivity and communication within medical facilities and can provide personalised, targeted medicine. IoM adoption in healthcare is inevitable Internet of Medical Things, or Healthcare IoT, refers to a connected in...

The common Causes Sudden Cardiac Arrest

Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is a condition in which the heart suddenly and unexpectedly stops beating. If this happens, blood stops flowing to the brain and other vital organs. SCA usually causes death if it's not treated within minutes. Sudden cardiac arrest is different from a heart attack, which occurs when blood flow to a portion of the heart is blocked. However, a heart attack can  sometimes trigger an electrical disturbance that leads to sudden cardiacarrest. Sudden cardiac arrest is a medical emergency. If not treated immediately, it causes sudden cardiac death. With fast, appropriate medical care, survival is possible. Administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), treating with a defibrillator — or even just compressions to the chest — can improve the chances of survival until emergency personnel arrive. SCA versus a Heart Attack Most people do not know the difference between SCA and a heart attack. Because time is crucial to saving ...

General Overview of Patient Chart Audits

Image
Can you imagine a typical day of a physician when he or she sees several patients complaining of prolonged fever? Four of them had blood tests in the past few months, but there are no records in the charts for these tests. How could the physician figure out if this was just a bad day, or if there is a systematic problem in the office? They could take a sample of charts forpatients who had fever in the past year, and assess what percentage had a documented reading. If there is a significant percentage without readings, this could be investigated further to figure out what went wrong and where the process failed. What is a Patient Chart Audit? A chart audit is an examination of medical records (electronic and hard copy) to figure out what has been done and determine whether it could be possible in a better manner. Retrospective chart review studies are often required in the absence of suitable healthcare databases and other secondary sources of information. Chart review st...
